ADVICE AND HELP

There is now an expectation that all businesses - from sole traders to large
organisations - will have a website. A website not only showcases your work
and sets out your services, but it enables you to communicate with, and keep
in touch with your customers.

A website doesn't have to be expensive or difficult to maintain. It does,
however, need careful planning so that you have a clear message and are able
to measure success.

Here are some guidelines to help you get started:

Choose a good domain name (web address - see Buying a Domain

Choose a good web host. There are a range of web hosts who offer
excellent services for around £5 per month. For that price, you can expect
to have a free domain included (web address), 300 email addresses, web
statistics to see who is visiting your site, picture galleries and forms. See
Choosing a Web Host guide

Decide whether you will design the site (with training) or brief a web
designer.
If you plan to use a web designer, make sure that you prepare a
clear design brief and discuss how you will update the site. Will you be able
to update it, or will you have to pay for updates? Remember that a good
website needs to be updated frequently.

Web Training. If you plan to design the site yourself, consider choosing an
easy low cost web editing package. Industry standard packages such as
Dreamweaver, Expression and Frontpage are quite difficult for a novice. See
CoffeeCup Visual Site Designer. See Training Page for training courses and
one to one training.
